Our story is rooted in a legacy of excellence. Jon M. Ryerson started the company in 1980 and spent decades building a reputation for high-quality work and unmatched customer service. His sons took over in 2018 and grew it into Ryerson Brothers Excavating, and in 2024 Lee Marcus purchased the business and continued that expansion. Lee Marcus brings a unique perspective to Ryerson Brothers Excavating, with a diverse background that combines business acumen and technical expertise. A graduate of Hope College with a degree in Political Science, Lee honed his skills in sales, managing teams and selling complex tech solutions before transitioning to construction. He purchased Ryerson Brothers Excavating in 2024 and focuses on strategy, growth and investing in the team, while an experienced management group runs the day-to-day. He is a dedicated family man, raising three sons—Luke, Nate, and James—with his wife, Lisa.
Leif Oquist runs day-to-day operations at Ryerson Brothers Excavating. He came up through the estimating side of the business, which means he knows what a job costs and what it takes to build it — a combination that keeps our bids honest and our crews scheduled. As COO, Leif oversees field operations, project execution and the people who make it happen, and he is the person making sure the work that was promised is the work that gets delivered.
With over 25 years of industry experience, Jon J. Ryerson plays a key role in managing projects and ensuring safety in the field. His career includes supervising installations of septic systems, city water lines, and sewer systems for the family business, as well as 12 years as a project manager for an excavating company in Colorado. Known for his hands-on approach, Jon often operates equipment on job sites. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and exploring the great outdoors.
